I recently acquired a 1988 Mariner 40 HP Japanese made. It did not have controls so I need to get some and I am not sure what to get. Can I get any Merc control box? Also the control cables connect outside of the hood cowl, does anyone have a part number for the cables that I need? Also the previous owner cut the pin connector inside the motor just leaving all the wires exposed, can I just cut the male end off the control box wire and hardwire them together?
