I just need to know what something is....there is a black hose that is plugged into the cylinder on my '88 Mariner 40hp. Is this just a breather?

there is a hose from the intak

there is a hose from the intake manifold to the crankcase for engine ventilation.

A hose would be for a water pressure gauge. Wires would be for a temperature gauge.

I bet that is what it is then. Can you buy a Water Pressure Gauge without the sending unit?
