I have a 1988 Johnson 88hp outboard that seems to be misfiring. I have replaced the spark plugs. The engine uses a lot of gas and you can feel it surge at low speed. Is there an easy way to which cylinder is misfiring?

Hook up an inductive pick-up

Hook up an inductive pick-up timing light to the #1 cylinder and observe the flash as you wind up the motor. Repeat with the other cylinders. You are using a poor man scope.
