Hello,

I was removing the the shift rod from the shift cam and it was giving me a heck of a time. I broke the nylon shift lever bushing/rod keeper part# 0330935. Now I can’t get the damn thing off, tried prying off and with pliers. Any ideas how this comes off? The shift lever is pulled all the way out is far as it can go towards the side of motor mid section case. Any insight is greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!
Mark

Hardly any tools required to disconnect the shift rod.----To disconnect the shift rod all you had to do was remove the hitch pin.------Just a pair of needle nose required.------So now just bust that 330935 out of there.-----It has 2 little latches that will break off.

Ok, there is a small bolt in the shaft cam. I didn’t need to loosen that? What do you suggest using to remove the keeper? I tried pliers but couldn’t really get a great grip on it. Do I just rip it out?
Btw I’m doing this to change out the water pump. I finished installing the new water pump and was wondering how easily the crank shaft should turn. I need to use pliers to turn it, is that a normal amount of force?
Thanks for you help!

No bolts need to be removed to disconnect shift rod on 1988 model.----There is a hitch pin on the L-shaped lever.----You remove that pin.----Push the lever to the port side and rotate.----Shift rod is now disconnected.-----Remove that broken piece with what ever method you like.-----Removing bottom carburetor may help.

Hello I managed to get the old bushing off by literally busting it out of there. Definitely removing the 3rd carb made it possible. So I thank you for that!
However when I went to install the new bushing it cracked on me. It looks simple enough to install but even after I greased it up and tried tapping it in and it cracked. So now I need to order another one. Is there a trick to installing? Thanks
