"The motor was checked out and the stator was bad according to the mechanic. I pulled the flywheel and the stator. On the inside of the flywheel there are run marks from the stator or lines. I see there are some type of copper lines that were in sets of 2 hidden by a coating of some sort on the flywheel. Some of the coating is missing from cetain spots exposing these copper lines or whatever it is called. I also have wear lines on the outside of the stator itself. I see no evidence of having magnets on the flywheel. Bottom line is, I was told to replace the flywheel as well as the stator. My stator is part #583410. Its black and solid. Only copper lines show on the outside. It looks nothing like the new ones I see on the sites. Its totally sealed. Any input would be great. Tks"

"Joe,

There has been some discussion on this board previously about the topic of coating on the stators. The aftermarket match for the 583410 is CDI stator 173-3410. CDI does not coat the stator wires because the feel that the heat is dissipated better without the coating.

CDI Stators are open wound to help dissipate heat from the windings.<!-/quote-!>
