1988 force 85HP no start after warm bayliner capri

"Hi all, I have a 1988 force 8

"Hi all, I have a 1988 force 85HP, Starts fine when first starting, after warm key won't engage starter (I can hear choke click so I have battery). I jump the solonoid and all is well (starts right up). I replaced the solonoid (sw109) and same thing ?? could it be another bad solonoid ? or is there some safety thingy i may be overriding ? temp ?? Any help would be great Thanks Dave"

"Hearing the choke click means

"Hearing the choke click means there's enough juice to run the choke and that doesn't translate to enough juice to a) engage the solenoid and/or b) to run the starter.

1) Starter: You have a dead spot on the starter commutator or open winding in the starter. Try moving the starter 1/4 turn by hand.
2) Not enough juice getting to the solenoid: The battery or battery connections are bad - clean battery connections, have battery tested. If you are jumping from the battery directly to the starter lead, you are bypassing the solenoid and not really testing if the leads to the solenoid are in good condition. Try jumping to the small red wire on the solenoid. If the solenoid won't engage at that point, then the solenoid is bad"

"Ken ... thanks for the tips ... the battery is less than a month old but worth a review of the battery,the wiring and connections, the solonoid is also new but acting as the old one did .. no start after the boat ran for 30 minutes or so ... I will test it out tomorrow (re: Red wire is actually yellow in my case I believe) and see if I am getting power to the solonoid when its warm... bur as long as I am not overriding some failsafe ... I am golden and will get to the botoom of this .. Thanks Dave"
