"I just bought a 1988 16'8

"I just bought a 1988 16'8" Bayliner Capri with a FORCE 85HP engine. The boat is complete, has all the accessories, complete snap over covers and everything even works!

After going through the whole boat to check everything, I decided to rewire all the nav lights, trailer, marine radio and stereo. Then I took it into the water. It runs OK but after a few minutes is loses power and I have to limp it back to the trailer.

After taking it to a marine shop, they checked the compression, which turn out to be great, they decided it could be carbs. The carbs checked out and now they say its the coils. I replaced them and it still is only firing on 2 of 3 cylinders. The modules were next. One might be bad but getting these items is a real hassle!

So, does anyone have any other suggestions ffor this motor? Anyone have a couple of good modules you might want to sell me?

Thanks in advance!

"Sometimes instead of dying al

"Sometimes instead of dying all together, they work fine until they heat up then they die. verify it by switching the mods between cylinders and see if the problem follows to the new cylinder. (I don't mean just switching plug wires, that would screw up your timing sequence, actually move the pack) Sorry if you allready knew that, just had to say it"

"It turned out to be the state

"It turned out to be the stater. I bought another engine this afternoon. Same year, running but needs a water pump. All cylinders are firing. I am going to combine the two ans see what I have...with any luck, a great running engine with spares!"

"OK, I installed the lower hal

"OK, I installed the lower half of my first engine with the new engine and moved over my newly rebuilt carbs as well. The motor kicked over firt time and is running great. The new motor had a DOLFIN on the lower so I moved that to the lower I was taking from the old motor and it seems to make a difference as well. It also came with a power tilt/trim which is the best thing of all!!

I am getting a new stator and trigger for the old motor and will either sell it here or on eBay and hopfully get my money back for the other one I just purchased.

We toook the boat out this afternoon and it ran like a raped-ape! Additional things I repaired today were the fuel guage, depth finder, shift asselmbly (it now has throttle controls as well as fwd/rev)

OK, its my first boat and I am happy for the moment. Let see how long it will take to get bored and move on to something bigger and better!

Thanks for the input!}"

"Bill,
The combination of a 20 y/o bayliner and Force motor will never allow you to be bored.

Frustrated,annoyed, desparate,confused,suicidal,but never ever bored
