I have an 85 hp on a 18 lund pvo v,it used to plane easily with 3 and even 4 people. now it's difficult I checked the compression cold on each cylinder 110psi each. could the compression be my problem.

The compression:should be close or even on all 3 cylinders.
110 on all three tells me the guage is not reading right.
Get another guage,retest.
Then if it's still 110 that could be a problem.
A good guage it should be around 145-150#
Check for spark??
Plugs burning right?
Any water on the plugs?
Check the fuel pump diaphram?
Clean carbs?
Install a filter between the pump and the carbs.Wally World G-2 or G-12

Brand new compression gauge.I'm sticking with bad compression for now. I will test my gauge. The cylinder walls look smooth by eye and touch. I'm collecting info ,so I can decide to pull the powerhead. It runs and idles perfectly. However the motor sits for 12 months with out running. Then we went on fishing trips that can go 50 miles a day.Now trips only run trough a tank .

the last trip was at 4000 foot elevation ,the plugs were wet black ,look like running rich.
After sitting we need to use starter fluid to start, after that it fire eveytime quickly. Before when we didn't use starter fluid, you would have to choke and manualy hold the throttle open to start initialy, after that it would fire up quickly all day, then back to the same routine in the morning.

Starting fluid ususallymeans low comp.
Pull the head and check for stuck rings/excess carbon, scoring.
You remove all three plugs while doing the tests??
