I bought a new to me boat with a 1988 Evinrude 40hp vro with a vro delete already installed. The engine ran like a champ till last week when it started to overheat. It looked like the tell tale was starting to spit and then steam so I have been shutting it down once it starts doing this.
Thought it maybe the water pump and not knowing if the PO had done any maintenance I started with that. The old pump looked ok but I replaced it with new OEM parts and it works amazing with great pressure. This did not fix the issue. Ordered a new thermostat, temperature switch and all sorts of gaskets including a new head gasket. To hopefully fix this.
It starts first crank and runs great but will overheat after 15 or 20 minutes and start peeing hot water. Am I on the right track with the thermostat or are there things I should be looking at?
Thankss
