1988 evinrude 25 hp water pump problems???

I trying to figure out my motor i put a new water pump on my motor it works only when you rev the motor up real high but then it still dont seem like it is cooling off the motor is there any body out there that can give me some info.

You may have to pull the powerhead and replace the rubber parts / grommet at the top of the water tube.

ok. but i have anather question could it be that the head gasket is blown and water is leaking in and causing the motor to over heat?

Of course it can be and it often is on that model !!---------Standard procedure to replace headgasket on severe overheat.
