I have a 1988 DT150 which was recently overhauled. Its getting a small amount of water in the bottom starboard cylinder(plugs have white powder on electrodes). Im going to have the head checked for cracks and shaved. Will shaving only one head and not the other make the engine run rough or out of balance(more compression on the side with the shaved head?

"White powder on plugs doesn't sound like water. If you get water in there, the plugs look like they have just been polished, sparkling clean. Either that or they will have rust on them. The white powder sounds like regular combustion deposits. Either that or it's running too hot and that is aluminum powder from the top of the piston melting. Why would you have the head shaved ?? Just have it checked for being flat, or better yet do it yourself. Lap it on a piece of glass with some lapping or grinding compound. If it is just a small amount, I wouldn't worry too much about it, although this may be a good time to look at the other side while it's torn down/

When you get the head off, you will get a better idea as to what is happening. If the cylinder is spotless with no carbon deposits, then it's water."

go ahead and shave both heads

go ahead and shave both heads and install new head on both sides and your motor will run evenly
