1988 60hp Evinrude. Cutting out

Have a 1988 60 hp evinrude. It is cutting out. I have an in boat gas tank. I prime the ball, start it up and it runs on the gas in carbs and cuts out. I replaced the quick connect on engine to fuel line. No help. A friend of mine turned the lever on primer solenoid and it runs great. This can't be the fix. Can you run it in the manual position? Any help would be appreciated.

When you turn the lever on the primer you're bypassing the carbs. Sounds like you have carb problems.
