1988 60 hp mercury....fuel problem

Recently bought this motor. It was in the garage and not running but assured it did last
year. Had it mounted on boat, new plugs, carbs. cleaned, new needles and seats, new
gas filter, new gas lines, new fuel pump.

It starts and runs but once it sits for 30-60 minutes it does not want to start. There is
gas in both bowls verified by opening drain bolts. Only way it will start is to spray gas
in the throat of both carbs, and then it starts immediately and runs ok until you
stop for 30 minutes and then it will only start by spraying carbs. Mechanic has adjusted the float
springs but this is somewhat guess work. HELP....I have $400 in repairs and cannot continue
to pull front off each time I want to restart. Mechanic said he is out of ideas. Thanks.

get a spark plug tester make sure you're getting spark on all cylinders. Check your choke, does it "click" when you push the key in? Dont squirt straight gas into the carbs, engine needs oil mix to run. You can mix some in a spray bottle.

Your choke / primer set-up is not working. ----------Or you are not following the procedure to start this motor.----------As said, you need to push key in during cranking to activate the choke / primer.----That is the way it works on many modern motors.

The way that "choke" system works requires the throttle to be virtually closed. (Guess how I, ah, learned that!) Try that and see if it works. If not, the idle circuit in the bottom of the carb bowls (assuming you have the carbs that thru-bolt to the block) might need cleaning out.
