1988 40hp johnson not running.. problems...

ok so i picked it up in a trade and it does have 125#'s on each cylinder. but it wont start now. only way i could check the compression is by streight sparking the starter. so first thing is the soleniod is shot so i ordered another one.. but none of the wires are hooked but the key switch doesnt have but only on off no choke no key start like that. i dont really know how to start it besides sparking the solenoid but i dont really know where to go from here.... i know the carbs will need cleaning. seeing youtube it doesnt look that bad. im just not sure how to turn it on if it doesnt have the key choke or key turn on like that. but its electric start and not pull start. any clue on whats going on with it?
 
but i cant finger out how to even start it. it doesnt have a normal key switch. it has just an on off key and a safety key thing. just all around seems weird. i ordered a new solenoid to have either way. just a weird setup.
 
Start by providing a model # or a picture of this thing, including controls if any!-------------Remote controls / tiller motor or what have you got here.
 
sorry new to all this vin is a j40tlccs. so its tilt and trim electric start 20" shaft and a 1988 i think im gunna have to rewire the key switch. my only guess to try and get it running...
