"I have a 1988 155HP Evinrude that Idles fine in and out of water and has plenty of RPMs out of water. When it is in the water though, it has plenty of power (3500 RPM, boat on plane) for about 10 seconds and then it acts like it is going to die (like it's starving for fuel). I recently had the carbs rebuilt by a guy that has been rebuilding my carbs for years. The fuel was new and in a portable tank (since filling my internal tank would be about $500)... so that would eliminate an anti-siphon, water-in-gas, or filter issue. I'm thinking maybe fuel pump? Does anybody have any ideas what else might be causing this??? I'd just like some opinions from the wealth of knowledge here before I take it to a mechanic."

Well the fuel pump is driven b

Well the fuel pump is driven by crankcase pressure pulses. If there is a problem with the cylinders that drive the pump/s then you will run out of fuel. The fuel hoses on a V-6 must be 3/8" as well.Start with a compression test. Also crank the motor over with your thumb on the fittings from crankcase to fuel pump and check the pulses.
