1988 15 hp outboard info

Hi All
New to this forum, please bear with me on this request.
I have an outboard that we rescued from drowning last year , it has been in the shed until now and I decided to get some spares and see if I could get it running again, Problems are as follows>>
Model serial no longer on plate only info I have is from the core plug BJ15BALCCS / R7789727, as far as I can make out its a 1988 model this needs to be confirmed so as to get the correct spares, any help appreciated.

We have soaked the block and got the power head to turn over (it actually fired up for a few seconds) so we know it will start.
I now need to get the speed control unfrozen (The plates under the flywheel connecting to the sprocket shaft that would normally be driven by the tiller arm) as this has seized.

The water pump will need replacing, and I'd like to check the lower leg seals etc.
my question is how do I unfreeze the plates and what else should I be concerned about or need to fix to get this back to a good running order.
I need to confirm the year/model so to order the correct spares again any help most welcome
Thanks in advance
George M

Model BJ15BALCCS is indeed a 1988 15hp Johnson, manufactured in Belgium.

Unfortunately, a engine being underwater requires attention immediately after getting it out of the water... not the following season. In all likelyhood, all of the bearings and bearing surfaces are rusted, pitted, etc... in a condition whereas the engine will most likely tear itself to pieces rather quickly.

However and hopefully you will be one of thoise fellows who can win the lottery with the very first ticket purchased. At any rate, I do wish you luck.

Thousands of parts in my remaining stock. Not able to list them all. Let me know what you need and I'll look it up for you. Visit my eBay auction at:

OK now
I have stripped down the throttle linkage and found the problem, removed the carb to give me room to work and found that the coil ring and speed control stuck all stripped and cleaned ready for ignition trials
So while this is in the semi open state had a look at the general condition of this motor.
My problem at this time is the pull cord assembly it looks as if the coil spring has worked loose and will not let the cord return to the home position, this needs further investigation.
The kill cord / kill switch cable is damaged and will need replacing and I think I will relocate this to a more comfortable working position.
Now that the throttle control is free I need to find a remote linkage that will fit ( anybody got a link to what is available for this OB ?? I would be most grateful)
Still need to find the correct water pump kit so if you have any info please pass this on to me, :)
And the prop is well chewed so need

Will update as I progress this project.

PS I Am in Southern Ireland and the OB is Belgium made.
Cheers
