"I have a 1987 4.3L OMC, 2bbl carb that wont start. I changed fuel/water filter, distributorcap, rotor, looks like plugs need replaced, but not sure of fuel level. Hasnt been started since ive owned it, it will blow somw white smoke when i try to add fuel to the carb before starting it. Any suggestions on how to start this thing?"

"compression test, then check

"compression test, then check spark, change points and condenser. How old is the fuel in the tank? Modern gas only lasts a few months...year old gas with no stabilizer may not fire..."

"Okay, i changed the points, a

"Okay, i changed the points, added fuel, and now ive lost all spark. The coil off the distributor has no spark coming out of it now. Any suggestions? I dumped fuel into the carc., changed the carb fuel filter, no fire now."

Either the wrong points or not

Either the wrong points or not adjusted properly or somehow the black wire is grounding out that goes from the distributor to the neg post on the coil.

"If the points are set correct

"If the points are set correctly and there's power to the coil, then it should make spark. You might want to unplug your ESA during testing to make sure it's not interfering. Then test with a voltmeter and see what's happening. If you have a safety lanyard switch, make sure it's good to go. Then set the dwell and check timing once you get spark."
