1987 mercury 90hp tilt/trim

I have a 87 mercury 90hp. My trim motor went out so I ordered a new one and installed it. It has 2 relays on it for the trim. So it trims the motor about half way up then seems like it’s looses all fire to both relays and start clicking , I let it sit for a few minutes and it does the same thing , gets it halfway up then same thing… also put brand new solenoids on it. Please help!!!

Check to see the battery is charged

Some of those had a trim limit switch and a separate ( 3rd) trailer button on the control box. Presumably to keep one from over trimming the engine. Try to find a wiring diagram for that model to see if it had one.

You did fill the pump with PTT fluid.... Maybe you thought you did and being a new pump maybe it had to be cycled and more addedto get a full amount of fluid for full life. Fluid on my pumps have been full when the engine is down and fluid is right at running out the fill hole. Check your fluid level.

If you replaced the. pump after it "went out", with an identical new one, and before it went out everything. was working, then why should you have developed an additional problem after changing the pump.....doesn't make sense but low fluid does as you don't have enough fluid in your reservoir to go all the way up.
