1987 mariner 25 hp. impellar install

hi, I have a 25 hp. mariner- s.n. ob212891 that I want to install a water pump kit. the 4 bolts came off and the lower unit dropped a couple inches. how do you disasessemble the gear shift rod ? when finished how difficult is it to get everything back together correctly ? thanks in advance..

look near the carburetor on the " port side " of the motor.-----If electric start it may help to remove the starter.---------------Not a difficult job at all and should be done every 3 years or so.

so if there is a screw or something to undo the rod, then the rod comes all the way out with the lower unit ? how difficult to guide the rod back to where it has to go? what gear should the control arm be in ? it is an electric start with a steering wheel console.. thanks again

When you see the connecter it will be straight forward.--------------Gear selection does not matter.--------Might be easiest to take the starter out ( 2 bolts )
