Hello,
I have a 1987 Mariner 20HP Tiller Serial # 0b151866.
I inherited this from my dad along with his Bass Tracker he bought new when I was very little. This is my first boat and it was my childhood boat. I would like to get it running again so I could share it with my children 7 and 9 years old now.
I am having trouble with the #2 cylinder going cold. It will run for a while, but with small burst of power loss until the #2 cylinder stops getting spark.
I have so far replaced the spark plugs, coils, plug wires, and compression tested. Both cylinders read 120 psi on the dot. Both read identical.
Tomorrow I will be troubleshooting the stator and trigger. If possible I would also like to test the switch box.
This is where I am need of help. I have no manual for the outboard or any experience with electrical troubleshooting.
I have took a spark tester to the #2 wire to confirm there is no spark when I got the problem to recreate itself.
It will run fine for maybe 20 minutes and then go to #1 cylinder only.
Any help, pointers, or information on trouble shooting the stator and trigger would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.
i will check the thread again in the morning. Hopefully there will be someone that can help me.
Goodnight all.
