I just got this 8HP Johnson th

I just got this 8HP Johnson that doesn't even look like it was ever used. It starts on starting fluid so I want to take the carb apart and clean it but the right nut is behind the recoil. How do I get to that nut and do I have to take the recoil off? I don't want the recoil to blow up on me so I need some ideas please. Thanks. Tim
 
It should come off if you use

It should come off if you use a hammer and screwdriver tip on it ---they are not that tight. Have done this trick on many motors.
