"I have a 1987 johnson 88 hp that will not pick up speed unless I push the key in to prime as I'm running, and then it seems to miss fire every 20-30 seconds. The bottom left plug is wet when I take it out but has good spark when I check it. I put new plugs in, a new coil for the plug that's wet and new power pack on the left side. I'm new to this boating thing so I need help on this. Thanks"

"Do a compression test. The 'wet' plug indicates lack of fuel, not ignition and may originate from a defective cylinder/piston."

"Define wet.

Wet with water or wet with fuel? Does that plug look cleaner than the others? If so, then you have water intrusion, most likely from a head gasket.

Wet with fuel means too much fuel or not enough ignition. If the other cylinders are normal (meaning the carbs are ok), then check out the high tension lead -- it may be leaking or you have a defective boot."

Time to pull Your carbs and check.Probably a blocked jet/channel or air leak. Be sure ALL gaskets are good and without any cracks that may cause air leaks. Furtermore check the 'check valves' in the inntake that they work properly (one way only). However before that be sure the engine has an even temp on both cylinder banks.
