Yes that is what i am going to do. Was you air duck in the way mine is much shorter right to left so i should be good when i get to it lolEasy peasy. I just sold an ‘88 Evinrude that had the original end of tiller stop switch broken.
Pushing that spring loaded switch simply completes a circuit & grounds out the ignition. The wires inside the cowling are easily accessible, simply cut & splice the wires to a new generic switch.
Thanks. My switch is totally kaput. In order for me to get my switch to change states is the plunger needs to be pushed in about one quarter of an inch below the surface of the switch. Yes totally kaput. And I haven't even been able to find a used one. Also the plastic that holds the switch into place is shattered. So I need to replace the entire assembly. But I like the idea of putting a switch through the casing and having a nice emergency switch like thatNo, the intake pipe for air is not as deep as the thin silver portion of the cowl.
Another idea… is your current switch totally kaput, or is just the end , (held “open” by spring pressure broken.
If that is the case, it’s an easy fix. I had a motor with that issue, obtained a used switch. The switch itself is very easy to disassemble. I then simply swapped the little round end piece, with no need to cut or splice wires.
