1987 Johnson 120 4cy fuel problem

I have a 1987 Johnson 120 that will run as long as I pump the gas into it. If I take the gas line off of the VRO pump it shoots out a steady stream of gas when I pump the bulb but when I crank the motor and don't pump the bulb the gas barely trickles out. I'm leaning towards needing a new VRO pump, which aren't cheap. What do you think???? If the VRO pump has quit working, is there anyway to repair it or bypass it altogether? Thanks for your help, Jeff

There is one hose at the bottom of that VRO that leads to the crankcase (pressure line) which operates the VRO. Check to make sure that it hasn't failed in any manner (split, come off, etc).

If all hoses are as they should be and pressure is present at that crankcase fitting when the associated piston is in the downward motion, assume that the VRO has failed.

Check with your dealership to see if a rebuild kit is available for your model.... if not, unfortunately a new VRO purchase is in your future.
