"I have an '87 Force 50, it starts ok but when you put it into gear it stalls. This problem is worse when it's warmed up good. When you slow to a no wake speed it generally dies. It always starts up again but as soon as you shift forward it dies out, it takes numerous tries to keep it running and move with power. I suspect a float problem. Anyone had this same problem?"

Take cowling off. Make sure adapter plates/ shaft O rings are not letting exaust choke motor out. Otherwise float may be stuck. Does it run with cowling off?

"Thanks Johnny, I'll check that out. Had the carb off today and the float needed some small adj. Everything on this motor seems super clean inside and out.I have had it running in a barrel with the cowling off but not on the lake. I pulled a compression check on it today and that looked good @ top136psi and bottom 140psi so I'll get it on the water and give it another try with some QuicKleen in the fuel mix."

"Check your float! Mine had the same behavior except that it would spew fuel out form the vent on the top starboard side of the carb. The float was cracked and filled with fuel, never to float and stop the flow of fuel.

Salvaged am old float from a 70 hp. Had to do some minor fabricating, by cutting the float mount, but works like a champ now. Just need to fine tune.
