Hello everyone, new to this forum and not a mechanic. Need Help trouble shooting my 1987 evinrude xp 150 model #E150stlcur, serial #r1496501
Symptoms are engine appears to run out of fuel and cut out
Had to pump up the primer bulb again to limp back into dock.
Things done to date to trouble shoot.
1. compression check 90 on three cylinders, 88,89, 91 on the others. (could only warm the engine for about 2min. prior to test)
2. replaced all fuel lines on motor.
3. replaced vro pump
4. new plugs nkg BWHXW-1 gapless
5. new inline filter
6. new fuel/water separator filter
7. cleaned carbs with carb cleaner spray
8. tested fuel pump by removing fuel out line and turned motor over to verify fuel pulse, no pulse from brand new vro unit from evinrude.
9. removed and cleaned crank case vacuum inlet.
10. re-tested same result.
Any suggestions on where to look next greatly appreciated. Not sure if an electrical issue to vro pump not sure how to test.
I have the service manual and parts catalog, so I can look up any procedure or part suggested.
Thanks for any advice.

The wires going to the VRO pump are for an alarm.----They have nothing to do with the pumping of the fuel.-------You have a defective VRO pump, hoses hooked up wrong to the pump, an issue with crankcase compression or a fuel line issue between pump and tank.-----The pump operates with a positive pressure pulse from the crankcase and a slight negative pulse.-----Perhaps test run with a portable tank.

Thanks, without a vacuum tester and by feel only, the hose to the crank case has strong pulse suction.
went over the lines, they appear correct to the pre-op photos, instructions that came with evinrude vro replacement and service manual.
I am pursuing the portable tank so I can check the anti-siphon valves on both my tanks on the boat. those should be on top of the tank on the fuel pick up tube correct?
50 to one ratio on the portable tank, will connect to supply inlet on vro.
If I remove the fuel out line on vro to carbs it should pulse fuel correct? (when motor turns over with spark plugs diconnected.)

thank you racerone,
