Hi All,
My Evinrude 70 hp has not had an issue since 1997. Very proud. However, During a run last weekend everything was fine then suddenly it jerked, sputtered, and died. Got it started a few times (like 5), but finally couldn't restart. Changed the spark plugs. Nothing. Feels like it isn't getting gas. Should I change the fuel filter, does it have a fuel pump? Anyone experience this?

Does it start if you pump the ball. Does the ball go flat while you are running. Depending on if you have the original VRO or a replacement fuel pump yes you have a fuel pump and filter.

did not start when the ball was pumped. Not flat. It was switched to OMC in 1987. seems like the engine is cranking strong just not turning over.

Do a spark and compression test. Have no idea what you mean by switched over to omc in 1987 your whole motor is an OMC. OMC was the parent company of Evinrude/Johnson.

If the engine is cranking it is turning over you have a no start.
Is your VRO pump still on the motor or does it have the conversion to non-VRO or is the VRO pump still on and the oil side capped off
Was the motor pumping water at the time were there any alarms.
