Dad bought this motor brand new and has not had many problems with it. Just put new float, needle assembly in this along with plugs and wires. Yesterday on the lake it started fine ran like a banshee and then started to cut out real bad like a cylinder going completely dead. It idled for a while( till it cooled off???) and then would run like a banshee for about the same amount of time and did the same thing. Past issues, years ago it would just up and die but that was due to float valve needle sticking and starving it of fuel. This is different, it still keeps running. Replaced coils several years ago but still has the original power pack. I don't think it is a fuel problem. Any ideas? Thanks

I will check, it was shooting a strong stream out the whole time. I have another hose and tank I will try next time out. What does it do if you are not getting good water flow through the engine, short the system to ground? Thanks

The engine peeing great just means your water pump is working well, it does not mean your engine is being cooled, as the stream comes out before it reaches the cyklinder head. Here in Florida, 80% of the used outboards I have bought had clogged cylinder head water passages, some totally clogged closed! Do yourself a favor and Get yourself an infrared thermometer, like this one (I have the identical model), and check every spot you can reach. If it overheats, you will have to take the heads off and clean them. https://www.amazon.com/Etekcity-Las..._1?s=industrial&ie=UTF8&qid=1525625574&sr=1-1

I'm not saying that is the reason why your engine cuts off. I actually think that your problem is likely clogged jets in the carbs. You need to clean each jet with air or an alcohol spray can (CRC brand) with a straw which is what I do. When I see the stream coming out the other end like it went out the straw, I can SEE that the jet is clean. I had to take a carb apart three times once till someone in a lawn mowing forum taught me to use the spray straw in each jet.
