I bought a 1987 Evinrude 2.5HP
I bought a 1987 Evinrude 2.5HP (E3RCUA) and it had QL77 (JC4) spark plugs in it. When I went to buy new plugs the Champion manual called for QL86C plugs. I see that the QL77 plugs are correct for the 4HP 1987 Evinrude.
1) Which are the correct plugs for my 2.5HP?
2) What problems could the ex-owner have caused by using QL77 plugs if they are incorrect? Could this have damaged the motor?
3) A friend that has a 1988 4HP Evinrude told me that my 2.5HP is basicly the same as his 4HP except they limited the torque (carb) to make it 2.5HP and did not include the gear shift. Is this correct or almost correct. I see most of the parts are the same for the two motors. But then why the difference in the plugs?
