Thanks for your reply. Online, I found a list of symptoms (rough idle, bogging on acceleration, but it wasn't doing this after I adjusted the linkage), plus a step-by-step, engine-off inspection I can do on-shore to see if the throttle-position is opening and timing is advancing through the throttle-lever travel. It also says how to inspect physical condition of the linkage to ensure all the parts are in good shape. I live in Michigan and we'll soon have good-enough weather to do the on-shore stuff.Unless you followed the proper link & sync procedures then yes it is most likely messed up.
But then again, it was probably messed up before since you say it didn't go to WOT.
Also, the vertical shaft that connects along the port side of the engine (from top to bottom) has a steel pin swedged into the top arm. That pin drives the timing mechanism & throttle. I've seen them come loose & nothing works right.
