1987 E40ELCUD won't start

My 1987 Evinrude hp motor was running great, and started great. I took out fishing for the first time this year and to run it. It started great, and ran great, then on my back in, the motor died and wouldn't start. I replaced the power pack, and now an alarm sounds from around the ignition. I replaced the power pack after getting it checked out by a guy I know who works on boats. He said there was no spark, so he called a boat repair shop, and they said most likely it was the power pack, but they wouldn't know for sure without checking it. So I took a chance and ordered a power pack from a friend of mine who owns a NAPA store. Any suggestions?

The alarm in the control box is an over heat alarm.------I can not see / test your boat / motor.-----
I would be looking for a short or damaged wiring in the harness.------A short to ground can stop spark.----A short to ground will sound the alarm.

Thanks for leading me in the right direction. When I was trying everything to get the motor started, I found a cable that was disconnected, so I reattached it. Evidently this is for an automatic oiler,( which this motor doesn't have). After disconnecting it, the motor started right up! Thank you! Thank you!
