1987 45 hp Mariner stalling issue

Hi all,

I could use a bit of help. My 1987 45 hp mariner, when on land with muffs, works great. Starts on first turn of the key, and runs great.....
Then I load up the boat, go 15 km to the nearest boat launch, put the boat in the water. Start up.... and it dies.... and I cannot even restart it, even on choke will not give a bump. tank and gas line have been changed, the stator and electrical all new... (just wondering about the spark plugs if it makes a difference, manual states standard auto plugs, but there are gapless plugs in it now..). Any ideas?
Video of the motor running (last year, before gas line and gas tank changed, showing it worked well) you can see here;

You might try this: Fire it up before you leave, then pull the fuel connector off and run it dry; and leave the connector off until you launch.

That trip (15 km) may be juggling the carbs, causing them to flood the motor with gas. Hell; something's causing it, right?

Jeff

PS: If you have one of those DOPEY new plastic fuel tanks without a vent, then the carbs will really flood on you! The sun heats them up, raising the pressure; and if the fuel connector is not disconnected, the fuel will pour into the motor. One of my customers came by just today with one--and it was blown up like a balloon! Somebody's gonna get killed by these fool things and there'll be hell to pay!

That is one thing I never tried, and it makes sense because after it stalls, it won't restart... Not even a peep, so the flooding solution seems plausible. I'm going to try it out. As for the tank, I was going to sell my 2 metal tanks... You think I should keep one? Thx
