I traded for a 1987 ebbtide 150 bass boat and do not have a lot of knowledge on this boat or motor. It has the 40hp Mariner outboard on back with some controls on the exterior of the case. When I get out on the lake the boat bounces due to having no power tilt/trim. Am I supposed to leave the motor unlocked in order to allow the boat to trim out or do I leave it locked in the down position and just move slow to limit bouncing. I would love any and all advice on this because I love being on the water fishing but hate the fact that I am limited to the amount of power I can use. Thanks

There should be a large pin under the engine to adjust the trim manually...you will have to experiment with the pin by moving it untill you are comfortable.

When moving forward the forces generated will keep the outboard pushed aginst the pin mentioned by guyjg. If there is no pin the outboard will be pushed up as close to the transom as possible. In reverse is another matter, if there isn't a pin for the reverse lock to latch onto the outboard will try and lift up out of the water as you increase revs, when the revs drop so will the outboard - harshly. There has got to be a tilt pin installed and also as mentioned you can set it manually by changing which set of holes you place it in. I found that small changes can make a big difference.
