1986 Renken...

I just got my first boat...1986 Renken open bow with a what I think is an OMC 4 cyl. engine. I have a couple questions.....where can i find an owners manual to be sure of engine. It is stamped OMC on the manifold. Also, when I shift to reverse, the boat just barely moves....a friend opened the engine cover and slid a small part (not sure what it was) and it shifted into gear. Is that a shift cable problem? The boat runs great throttled up.....speedometer said 36....happy there. At low speed, once, it seemed like the motor "slipped".....almost like it fell out of gear, then went right back in. Can anyone point me in the right direction....I paid $1800 for it, boat itself is in fine condition, interior is great other than carpet which dosent seem lke a big deal. Any hekp would be most appreciated!!!!

Does your drive have rams on ether side to tilt it up ? You could post pictures of the side of the drive. And of the engine then we can tell you what you have.

Ayuh,... That's a transition year,... Is it a Stringer drive, or a Cobra drive,..??

your drive is a 400 series "stringer" mechanical shift model
your engine is a 3.0L 140HP GM 4 cylinder

at some point in time, your outdrive has been replaced with a 1982-1984 unit (thus the white paint instead of silver), but other than paint, it is identical to the original.

I agree stringer drive you should be ok with a seloc 3400 in the right hand corner.
