1986 OMC Sterndrive no spark.

I bought a 1986 Cobia with an OMC sterndrive. Not a cobra. The engine is painted silver the Model number is 3029THROOM. My problem is I have no spark. Gas is going. Got compression. Nothing comming out of the coil. The testor says I have 10v on the + side when the key is in the run position. But when I crank the engine I got no power or spark from the coil. I went to the parts store and bought a brand new coil and have exactly the same result. Please it is the most simple engine What am I missing?

Doh... Sorry It is an OMC 3.0 Litre With a GMC block.

The engine turns, rum rum rum... but no fire. Tried a new coil. Maybe the new coil is bad also?

change the points inside the distributor - to get it going in the interim, you can probably just rub the old points with some fine emery cloth - fold it and drag it through the contacts.

I had the same problem with my 1987 3.0 GMC, no spark and only 4V coming out of coil as I posted here on Tuesday, turned out to be my tachometer was bad and was shorting out, so you might want to check that wire on the coil. Just a thought.

changed everything. points coil condenser wires rotor and cap. Wires were marked Packard 1984. Got spark thanks.
