"I have a 1986 Mercury MCM170 and the engine started running bad and dies. I traced the fuel lines to the tank and fixed everything along the way. I replaced the check valve at the tank, rplaced the fuel lines and filter to the fuel pump, cleaned out the sediment bowl on the fuel pump, and cleaned the screen at the carb.
When I start it cold it starts ok but bogs down when you open the throttle. Not always though, it sometimes runs good but then bogs down again. When it dies there is a strange sound like sucking or whistling from the carb for a few seconds?"
