"i just bought 1986 70 hp vro johnson with remote controls. ran fine in driveway with water ears. compression reads 100 through all cyl. when i went to ramp to launch, motor stalled when shifted forward or reverse. it starts right up and idles nice in neutral, about 1200rpm. looked around , found some minor fuel leaks, replaced all fuel lines from tank outlet to carbs, including the primer ball, still stalls when i shift, if i push right through low speed in gear, it runs fine at high speed, but when throttled back , stalls at low speed in gear. did linc/sync procedure as described in servive manual, never touched wot timing advance, but dont rally get it. if i set cam follower at throttle plate as described in book for idle timing, then check timing, to adjust timing, you are moving throttle plate past center of cam follower. i think i am missing something, it seems that to get this right, you are changing your earlier settings. if i raise idle screw, idle will be to high for safe shift. when i look at cable movement, throttle does not advance until about 1/3 of travel through forward range at the control box, is this right. my yamaha throttle advances as soon as i click into forward gear. one other thing with the fuel filter, it does not stay full to the line when idling, it can hardly keep a 1/2in or so in the bottom, if i pump ball it fills up, but runs right back down. any thoughts or help would be greatly appreciated. thanks"
