Just brought back and old motor to life, i can start it, but it wont idle with out some throttle. It will run at half throttle as long as i dont rev it up to high, once i try to get it moving at a decent speed it just dies I have to go real slow. Just put new fuel lines on it and cleaned carb good fires up on first pull just cant reach max speed with out it dieing. maybe just need carb adjustments? my first time working on an small outboard. making progress but might need some info on what to adjust the #2 cam roller? #15 low speed adjustment? or #31 idle? any help be apreciated

I also suspect possibly old "o rings"#3 #4 #5 in priming system that might lead to flooding?

Any leads or previous experience would be appreciated

Did you clean #24 (high speed jet) thoroughly with a piece of single strand steel wire? Solvent just doesn't seem to do that job properly.

(Carburetor Adjustment - Single S/S Adjustable Needle Valve)
(J. Reeves)

Initial setting is: Slow speed = seat gently, then open 1-1/2 turns.

Start engine and set the rpms to where it just stays running. In segments of 1/8 turns, start to turn the S/S needle valve in. Wait a few seconds for the engine to respond. As you turn the valve in, the rpms will increase. Lower the rpms again to where the engine will just stay running.

Eventually you'll hit the point where the engine wants to die out or it will spit back (sounds like a mild backfire). At that point, back out the valve 1/4 turn. Within that 1/4 turn, you'll find the smoothest slow speed setting.

When you have finished the above adjustment, you will have no reason to move them again unless the carburetor fouls/gums up from sitting, in which case you would be required to remove, clean, and rebuild the carburetor anyway.

The cam roller is likely not your problem unless somebody messed with it. Did the carb have shellac or white or green stuff in it? Then you really need to get that main jet golden. It may be partially restricted. You have to physically clean it to its original orfice size. Using wire or a welding tip cleaner. Like Mr Reeves stated.

thanks guys did the carb adjustments stated above, runs strong now shifts smooth even idles in the slow speed and in the start position.Only off thing isjust getting a lope sound at high throttle like the an inconsistency in the sound, but still running smooth.

I see nothing in your reply about cleaning that high speed jet. If it's not absolutely clean, that'll lead to other problems.
