1986 Johnson 15HP outboard

I was told that there are different covers for this motor depending on if it has a late production thermostat vs an early production thermostat. Is this true? I have a model J15ECDE that I am rebuilding and I would rather use the late production thermostat/head.

The cylinder head change was made in late production 87 motors ------------Different cylinder head part # are listed.-------------Cover / cowling only has 1 part #
