i have a 1986 evinrude 50 hp and it strarts and seems to run fine in the yard on the muffs but when i put the thing in the lake and push down the gas it wont go i mean it goes a littel but just above idel speed i just took the carb off and cleand the heck out of them the fuel system is all working good well it is in the yard oh ya and i did get it up to speed once with the primer button i need some help what should i try

Have you checked the compression and the spark on the engine? If not, do so to eliminate any possibility of problems in those areas.

Using the primer button simply allows the fuel mixtue to bypass the carburetors and flow directly into the intake manifold area. This reaction indicates that you are overlooking something with the carburetors.

In the bottom center portion of the float chambers of each carburetor is a brass high speed jet. If you haven't manually cleaned those jets with a piece of single strand steel wire, do so as carburetor cleaner alone simply doesn't do the job properly.

The engine may sound like it's running properly on a flushette (garden hose) to the untrained ear but it is unlikely.

It takes a screwdriver that has a shank which is a perfect fit to go inside that threaded area with a tip made to be like what you see here. This allows the tool to get a perfect grab fit on the jet. However, you can clean it where it is if you have the float bowl off.

a welders tip cleaner has all sizes of stiff wires and is handy for those jets.....cost around 10 bucks...

Papyson... Only if those welders tips do not have cleaning ridges in them. They would unfortunately enlarge the jet.
