I'm trying to diagnose my ignition issues on my 1986 90hp tower of power. I'm currently working on getting the Ohms readings on the stator, however I'm not sure if testing it correctly or even reading it correctly. I'm getting different readings on different settings and it's not matching up to what it's showing in my manual. Mind you electronics was never my specialty and I'd like to correctly diagnose this stator rather than just dropping $200 on a new one if I don't have to. Anyhow the following are the readings I received by attempting to follow the manual:
Red/White & Blue/White: 200k=58.0 ohms / 20m=0.05 ohms (I didn't get any readings setting the meter on 200, 2k, and 20k)
Red & Blue: 200k=05.9 ohms / 20k=5.90 ohms (I didn't get any readings setting the meter on 200, 2k, and 20m)
Again, I'm not quite sure what the he'll I'm looking at or even if I'm doing this right. I've never had to work on this portion of the ignition system. If anyone can provide any answers or assistance I'd greatly appreciate it! Thanks!
