"I have a 1986 Evinrude 50hp E

"I have a 1986 Evinrude 50hp E50TLCDE. This was recently switched from VRO to the conventional fuel pump. The problem I'm having is it won't idle. If I push the primer it picks up speed. I've got it figured out that the top carb is not feeding fuel through the low speed passages. Both carbs have new kits and floats and are clean as a whistle with no corrosion of any kind. I have swapped the carbs and the problem follows the carb. Everything in the carb looks good, clean and nothing plugged. I looked at the reed pedals, there is a little clearence in these maybe .005"-.010" no more. This one has me stumped and help is greatly appreciated."

"sounds like ur idle passages

"sounds like ur idle passages are clogged...if prob, follows carb..its the carb...u may, have to pull the alum plug out of top,and ck the tiny holes in there...every one ,must be,..un-obstructed,as well as everything else.,use some spray carb cleaner, and blow out w/air."

"I removed the plug and the 2

"I removed the plug and the 2 transfer ports are clean and unrestricted. The tube is also clean and unrestricted. Thats why this is so puzzling. It is nothing obvious. If I just cover the carb for a second it picks it up. I thought it might be the top crankshaft seal, I just replaced that to."

"Fuel must first flow thru the

"Fuel must first flow thru the brass high speed jet that's located in the bottom center of the float chamber. If you did not manually clean that jet with a piece of single strand steel wire (or a tool of your choice), do so.

Your explanation indicates that the jet is clogged."

"i cant rem on that eng,does i

"i cant rem on that eng, does it have a small tube, inside the larger nozzle? if so,run a wire up in it,blockage is common,in the lower area's of those."

The high speed jets are clean

The high speed jets are clean and new. There was no corrosion in the bowl. The small tube is also clean and clear. I removed the fuel bowl and added fuel to it to see if there was something wrong. It rose up through the main jet in to the center cavity. I even set both carbs side by side to see if there was and diferences. They looked a like to me. I'm still puzzled on this one.
