Engine idles fine...get it the gas and it boggs down. Will kick every now and then like it wants to run. Actually took off for a few minutes..then back to bogging....I think its electrical...where should I start to figure things out. Fuel is good...seafoam in new tank of gas...gonna put new plugs in this week[ngk bu8h]. Im thinking stator or ecu maybe ?

Back up a sec here. An XR2 is a dual switchbox, carburated model - no engine computer. And if it's idling ok then the bogging just off idle is not due to the stator. If low speed windings were shot, it wouldn't idle either. Ditto the trigger (you would have a miss or missing "cylinders" at all rpms).

Your problem most likely still lies in the fuel system.

The new gas with seafoam is a good start, as is the new plugs. But it kinda indicates maybe some old gas was in the system?

Bogging is usually a sign of 1) clogs in the carbs which Seafoam will "prevent" but won't fix once they are there or, 2) a fuel pump diaphram which is on the way out.

If the carbs haven't been rebuilt in the past few years, they are probably due. Disassembly and cleaning is definately in order...
