Rebuilt the engine this winter and it works wonderfully! I ended up replacing the oil pump and all the lines. I used a tygon yellow line and I notice after sitting for a few days, the oil leaks down almost to the pump on all the lines. Could I put a check valve in each line to hold the oil closer to the cylinder on start up? The oil pumps are hard to find and still used. Unless they can be rebuilt?

Check valves were implemented starting with the 1989 40 HP models.

I can think or no reason why you can not retrofit your model with the later check valves.

Wonderful!!!! I'm sorry I have taken so long. Cancer sucks.
Very Much Appreciated, Boscoe!!!
Oh how well do I know. Caring for a friend now that has stage 4 colorectal cancer. Metastasized to her lungs and liver. Treatment seems to be worse than the disease. No quality of life.

It can be hard. I have only had once cycle before I got an infection. Been treating that and as I have recovered from that, my stage 4 pancreatic cancer has advanced. Now as the infection has come back, I need to keep on the IV antibiotics as well as do the chemo. The biggest thing is to not go down the rabbit hole of despair. Even at stage 4, there is hope. Doesn't mean the treatment is fun. My docs created a nickname for irenotecan. They call it " I run to the can". If you don't have a sense of humor with all the awful things that happen with cancer, I don't know how you make it through. God bless you for being there for your friend. I know it isn't easy. I'm not easy for my wife.
