1985 Mercury 50hp 4cyl replace fuel filter

Stupid question:

I cant figure out how to remove the fuel filter to clean/replace.

I would think the outer plastic cover unscrews to reveal the internal filter, but I cant seem to unscrew it and I didnt want to crack the plastic.

its Mercury part #87946A13 (outboard serial # 0A132113)

Do I have to disconnect fuel lines, and remove to disassemble?

I'm sure someone else will chime in on this but maybe just remove that and replace with a new inline filter..?

Not if it's the kind that bolts to the motor--those unscrew.

Yes, it bolts on. Guess I will use a little more force and see what happens. Can I try a strap wrench if I cant get it to budge with my hand?
