1985 Mercury 115 experiences

Would like to know what the forum thinks of mid 80'5 115 inline six motor. Found one that seems to be a good deal but don't know much about these. Would like to know the good & bad, Thanks!:cool:
 
They are / were an excellent motor when it left the factory.--------------------Outboard motors work hard and are subjected to much owner abuse and neglect.-----------------What condition it is in today is what you need to determine.-------------Be carefull if you are buying one with no warranty.
 
Engine has good compression & the owner says it has been rewired to take care of the usual problems that they have & was a fresh water engine & not used that much & well taken care of but who really knows? Just wanting to know some past history of the inline six.
 
Some think they are just great engines.--------------------If there are internal mechanical problems they can be expensive to repair.-------------There are some sites dedicated to older mercury motors and the " tower of power " motors as well.
