1985 merc ob bogsstalls on throttleup

replaced switchbox....stator.

replaced switchbox....stator. Pulled carbs & cleaned. Spark on all 4 cyls. Runs fine untill I throttle up....then it bogs down and will stall if i dont back off.

"sounds like main carb jets clogged, providing the compression is good on all cyls. while running with cover off look down throat of carbs to check for fuel being drawn out of venturi, might have to give it a little gas to see this. same prop on engine right"

"Peter, The idle mixture needs to be rich enough to allow the motor to rev up. If the motor bogs immediately upon giving it throttle, it is likely the idle mixture is too lean. Open the mixture screws 1/8 turn and try it again."

I agree with the other posts, and would add a couple of ideas.

If you need to clean the main jets, which seems likely, it is best to remove the carbs and do a thorough job. If a jet is clogged, there is a good chance that something else is clogged also.

Another possibility is that the throttle plates are not operating in unison because of a problem with the linkage, or that the throttle is not properly synchronized with the timing advance.
