"Hello out there! I have a 1985 115hp Mercury O/B.
This motor is 160 hours short of 3000 hours. She is still running strong, compression is just a little over a hundy in each cyl (within 10% of each other).

Planning for the future I was wondering about rebuilding this one and making it into a 140hp.
Is this possible and even more important does it
make since?

Thanking anyone in advance for the info.

The " tower of power "

The " tower of power " are a great running motor. It may require new reed blocks to go to 140 at $250 each. The 6 cylinder is not a cheap motor to rebuild as you need to machine extra cylinders and buy more parts than a 4 cylinder motor. It may be better to sell yours and get a 140 that is refurbished with a warranty.Start looking for good used parts on E-BAY. Just 2 cents.

"Clyde, The difference in the blocks between the 140 and the 115 are significant. It may be possible, but likely not cost effective to have these done. You can get a 135-175HP Merc V6 used for $500-1000, which will give better power than your inline will ever achieve, no matter what mods you make!"
