How do I check the ignition system to see why there are no spark? No fire to the plugs

"Kirk, To amplify on Bandit's answer, unplug the large round plug on the lower starboard side of the outboard. Now use a jumper wire to energize the starter solenoid, and check apark with a timing light. if the spark returns, the wiring harness or ignition key are grounding the switch boxes and killing the spark"

"Kirk look at the switch boxes and find the black wire with yellow stripe and disconnect from switch boxes 1 at a time and check spark on the one that is disconnected, be careful for if the engine starts you can't turn it off since this is the kill wire. If there is a short to ground the engine will run on 3 cylinders on this side."
