1985 Evinrude 30hp - New Owner

This motor is new to you have you run it yet? That flaked off metal had to go somewhere I recommend at least replacing the two seals under the water pump as they are likely damaged.

It’s only ran in a tank of water in the driveway.
I agree completely, it had to go somewhere. I’m wondering if they reinstalled it like that years ago?
Ahh.. The joys of buying used equipment haha! I appreciate your help with my project!

I believe some of these shafts are coated ( nickel carbide ? ) ----It appears to be flaked off for some reason.-----Just install a speedy sleeve and be done with it !

After being able to spend a little more time looking and learning more about this engine it appears that the part number labeled#64 is missing. What is the Spacer needed for? (yes, I’m going to replace it,just curious about its function)
Also, I removed the Water Tube (#70) but I’m not sure if the washer is still up in there or not, but it appears that it is not a part that is available anymore. Anyone ever used an O-ring before?

Just asked the same question when replacing water pump on my 89 Johnson 20 hp, here is one of our experts' response:
Keeps water from shooting up the driveshaft tube and away from the bottom main bearing seal etc.

Thanks JD!

After even more looking around this driveshaft is stampedwith 323261 and measures 25 3/4" but based off the info using my modelnumber the drive shaft should be 341636. When I googled the 341636 to see if Ihad any options of buy one (Marine Engine says they are not available) I foundseveral on eBay but they measure 24 1/8” long..... So there is huge differencebetween the two.

I found that I can still get the 323261 from MarineEngine if I had to go that route… Just food for thought. I’m assuming thislower unit has been replaced with a different unit? That part number alsobrought up a 1982 35hp Evinrude diagram when I did a quick search.
